Overview

Installation Done Right Sets the Stage for Everything That Follows

The quality of installation and commissioning work determines how well a device performs for its entire operational life. A poorly installed printer — misconfigured network settings, suboptimal placement, inadequate power supply, missing driver updates — creates problems from the very first day of operation that compound over time. Smart Printing Solutions' installation and commissioning service eliminates these risks entirely.

Every installation is carried out by a manufacturer-certified engineer following a documented installation protocol specific to the device being installed. We begin with a site survey to assess readiness, complete the physical installation and network integration, verify performance through acceptance testing, and only sign off when the device is performing to manufacturer specification.

Site Survey

Starting with a Clean Foundation

Physical Environment Assessment

  • Identification of optimal device placement for workflow efficiency, ventilation, and accessibility
  • Floor load assessment for production-grade devices
  • Clearance verification for paper trays, service access, and delivery pathway
  • Ambient temperature and humidity check for production devices and wide-format printers
  • Power supply verification: voltage stability, earthing, dedicated circuit requirements

Network Infrastructure Assessment

  • Network port availability at the intended installation location
  • Network segment assignment and VLAN requirements
  • Wi-Fi signal strength assessment where wireless deployment is planned
  • Firewall and port access requirements for print management software
  • DNS and DHCP configuration review

IT Infrastructure Review

  • Print server architecture (if applicable)
  • Active Directory domain structure for authentication integration
  • Driver deployment method: GPO, SCCM, manual
  • Existing print management platform compatibility check

The Smart Printing Solutions Installation Process

Step 1: Pre-Installation Preparation

Following site survey sign-off, we coordinate device delivery logistics, engineer scheduling, and any customer-side pre-installation actions. A confirmed installation date and time is agreed.

Step 2: Physical Installation

Unpacking and inspection for transit damage. Physical placement and levelling. Paper tray installation and configuration. Finisher / sorter attachment where applicable. Power connection and initial device self-test.

Step 3: Network Integration

Network cable connection and IP address assignment. Device hostname and DNS registration. Email (SMTP) configuration for scan-to-email. LDAP/AD integration for user authentication. Print management platform integration where applicable.

Step 4: Driver Deployment

Preparation of print driver packages for all required operating systems. Driver deployment via GPO, SCCM, or manual installation. Test print from representative workstations. Mobile print configuration where required.

Step 5: Device Configuration

All device settings configured per recommended baseline and customer-specific requirements. Security settings, scan workflow configuration, energy savings settings, and admin passwords set and documented.

Testing

User Acceptance Testing

Print Quality Verification

  • Test prints across all paper types and sizes
  • Colour calibration check for colour MFPs
  • Duplex alignment verification
  • Stapling and finishing accuracy check

Functionality Testing

  • Print from all user workstations in scope
  • Copy test (all paper sizes, all quality modes)
  • Scan-to-email, scan-to-folder, scan-to-cloud verification
  • Mobile print test (iOS and Android)
  • Authentication test (PIN / card / biometric)

Network Performance

  • Print job submission and completion time under normal load
  • Concurrent user test (multiple simultaneous print jobs)

Software Integration

  • Print management software correctly records job data
  • Cost allocation tested for at least one user per department
  • Report generation verified
